Inside the Box

Humble Chips

I’m not a fan of potato chips unless they’re Miss Vickie’s. I’m just really not a potato person. These chips are made in Canada from 92% organic ingredients. I’m glad they sent us the honey mustard flavour as it’s something I’d never heard of before. The taste is pretty mild and not too strong. Tony is a fan of them.

Apparently they cook their chips with the skins on, which is great. I’ve never understood the peeling of potatoes. The bags are compostable in industrial composters and they’re on the lookout for ones that can be composted at home.

There were four available designs, two of which would be useful to me and two not so much. This was one of the “not so much” ones. I’m growing a crap ton of pumpkins right now and they are certainly not “farmers market pumpkins”.

So this is just a piece of wood painted white with stickers on it. It’s valued at $22, which makes me think I’m in the wrong business. I don’t really know what to do with this.

I’ve noticed that most websites don’t have two pieces of information that I always want: where they operate and when they started.

Last Object Tissue & Case

I feel bad that the entire time I was sick last week I didn’t use any of these. To be fair there’s only 6 tissues in this little container and I would’ve burned through them in less than 30 minutes.

I was hoping these would be of a softer and thicker material, but I guess you can’t expect too much from organic cotton.

Still being a bit sick, I just blew my nose into one and didn’t find it absorbent enough. I think these might be better as portable napkins. Six doesn’t go very far though, and if I used these as much as I use regular tissues I would have to wash them every day. It’s a neat idea, just not for me. I do like the silky silicone case.

Last Tissue is a product from LastObject, which is a company based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Keep Leaf Pencil/Make up Case

“Keep Leaf is a lifestyle brand that celebrates and supports: Great Design, Ethical Production, Sustainability & Meaningful Causes.” Sounds good to me. The things they support are so important they’re capitalized.

This is actually a pretty nice case. I like the colour, design, and feel. It has some heft and squish to it. The outer fabric is organic cotton, but lined with something synthetic I’m sure. I like it when eco/ethical companies also put effort into designs. So often eco/ethical products are ugly.

UpCircle Face Moisturizer

This face moisturizer stinks. I am not a fan of that smell. Apparently it has won multiple awards, but I don’t know how important that is if you have to wear it on your face but can’t stand the smell.

I’ve tried some of the left side of my face and it took a long time to absorb. Once it’s been absorbed it’s actually quite soft and not too sticky. I guess it’s worth putting up with the smell for.

UpCircle is from London, UK.

Elate Cosmetics Make-up Brushes & Compact

I needed a new blush brush so this is great news for me. My last one was from a Mary Kay sample that my step-mom gave probably more than a decade ago. It’s been shedding on me for the past year. Make up is not part of my daily routine, so there hasn’t been much (any) motivation to purchase a new one. It’s also probably a good thing to have a new eye shadow brush. I got mine from MAC 21 years ago for my birthday and have only washed it a handful of times. The paint has been peeling off for the past few years but the actual brush still works great. Now I have a replacement if need be. Hehehe.

This brush set also came with an eye shadow compact. The colour is pretty neutral, called “beloved”. I love the case it came in. It is made of bamboo and has a lovely design. It also conveniently has a little mirror, and the colour can be replaced with another as it’s only held in with magnets. Neat idea!

Your Green Kitchen Tea Towel

I find it amusing that two boxes this season sent a tea towel from Your Green Kitchen. They’re cute, and I probably can never have too many tea towels. I haven’t bought any new kitchen towels since I used to sell Norwex, which was ages ago. These are also much more classy than my well-used microfiber ones.

Overall Impression

This is a fine box. I liked some of the items, but most of them are “meh” to me. My one complaint in general is this move towards “vegan” being equated with eco-friendly. It is not. Plastic is vegan so…
