Spiral Rain: Witch & Ohm – October 2022

This month’s Ohm Box focuses on numerology and the Witch Box is all about sigils. Reading this month’s list of boxes, I’m starting to regret not having opted for the Apothecary Box as well. I thought it was just going to be herbs, which I can source myself, but it actually contains quite a variety of things. If I’m still enjoying the boxes next September, maybe I’ll do the triple box for the following year.

Inside the Box

October Witch Booklet

There is little consistency with these booklets when it comes to how they arrives. This month it came stapled but not folded. Last month it came stapled and folded. In August it was neither stapled nor folded. Odd.

This one has the same type of information that is generally in these booklets, including this month’s important dates that span many different belief systems, both current and historical. I still think the dates should be included at the end of the previous month’s booklet, or ship the boxes early enough that they arrive a few days before the beginning of the month.

Other contents this month include: October, Moons, Scorpio, Numerology, Witchy Crystals, Samhain, Sigil Witchcraft, and some blurbs from Spiral Rain. The latter include credit to the artists, information about the charity they support, the subscription boxes, and a note from Rani.

BOS pages by Style24Designs

This month there are six double-sided pages covering topics such as alchemy, magical alphabets and squares, and a bit of astrology. Very beautiful pages. I just wish the borders were even.

Hamsa Necklace and Earrings Set

I had never heard of/noticed the Hamsa Hand before receiving this box. I’m sure I’d seen it but just didn’t register it. Then this morning I saw a friend of mine wearing it on her Instagram video. She’s a very talented makeup fx artist if you want to check her out. Now that I’m looking back at more of her posts I see she’s worn the necklace a lot. I think it is very pretty, and I appreciate the protective energy it is said to provide. This is another link with a description of the hand that spans many religions and thousands of years.

I don’t think I’ve had stainless steel jewelry before. My ears are very sensitive, so it’ll be interesting to see how they react to it. Unfortunately one of the backs of the earrings does not stay on very well.

Soapstone Pentacle Box

The soapstone is really nice quality, from what I can gather with my zero knowledge of soapstone. I just hate the interior. I cannot stand those dry, short fibres. Ahhhh!

Rani had this to say about the soapstone: “Soapstone is commonly believed to have a soothing, balancing effect while creating a positive, calming energy. Soapstone is valued for it [sic] the way it helps one prepare for changes in life. It is also thought to promote truth, logic as well as rational and creative thinking.” I guess I should keep it after all.

Fall Jubilee Candle

This is an 8oz candle, so roughly twice the size of the candles we normally get in these Spiral Rain boxes. Apparently it’s only worth $4 more than the 4oz candles, so if you don’t mind a wider candle in a tin instead of a jar, it may be a more economical option.

This candle is absolutely beautiful and smells quite heavenly. It’s very much on the sweeter side than others we’ve received, and the first to come in a tin. I generally am not a fan of skulls, but the raven skull is kind of cool and can be put on jewelry later. This is the same with the pentagram. Have I mentioned that a family of ravens moved into the area a few years ago? I think they’re awesome.

Apparently the candle is infused with maple butter. Yum! I really love the beauty and creativeness that is put into these candles. The only other candles I’ve seen that have crystals or decorations on them are those cheap candles from the early 2000s that had random charms in them, and Moonwater Soap & Candles. I picked up some soap and a Root Beer candle from the latter at The Mango Market earlier this year.

Focus Ritual Diffusing Oil

I had a rough time doing tech last night, and I would love to use this to refresh me but the childproof cap has meproofed as well.

After much effort I was finally able to get it off. There seems to be a sweet spot where it will start to screw off. I’m afraid to put it back on.

I applied to my temples and back of the neck as instructed, and then on my wrists for my own self. I really feel the effect on my temples. It’s quite refreshing, but I am still very tired and down. Maybe it takes some time to take effect, or maybe I’m immune.

Vintage Writing Paper

This is very pretty paper that measures around 6″ x 8.5″. I’m very much a tactile person, so I like to write things down on paper. If the paper is pretty, that’s a bonus!

Achievement Sigil Card

There is no information about this or what it’s supposed to do. I was hoping I would be able to find some more information about it on the BOS pages, but I was unable to find anything and a quick online search yielded no results. In any case, I would love to win the contract. I have been looking for meaningful work for the past year and a bit without success. It’s not that I put in no effort. I just put effort into a lot of random areas. It’s hard to find success without dedicating oneself to one thing.

Numerology Booklet

The only thing I know about numerology is Tony’s grandma’s affinity for it. This looks like a very nice and concise introduction to it with plenty of graphics and a pretty background. I used to be really into “signs” from “god” until I became aware that it was leading to bad decisions, so I stopped that. Now I just think “ah, how interesting” and move on with a more logical approach. This works much better for me personally.

Binder and Pen

This was an odd choice to add to the box. I also have no clue how these two items amount to $20. I’m pretty sure I can pick up this set for less than $5 at the ABC store in International Village. I haven’t been in years, but it’s a pretty awesome store if you live in the Vancouver area and haven’t checked it out.

The funniest part of this item is that the description includes instructions on how to use a click pen. I’d say the binder is the worst item so far from the 3 boxes. I would have much preferred something prettier or thematic like the vintage paper.

Autumn Candle

Another absolutely delicious-smelling candle. Apparently it smells like Rani’s pumpkin pie with Skors caramel. I can never find the box candles on the website, so I wonder if they’re exclusive to the boxes. One thing that is fairly new to the website (I think) is the Candle Refill Kit. It’s an idea that I haven’t yet seen elsewhere. I’ve been planting ferns and spider plants in my old candle jars. A local company, Lumière Leslie Candles, started a recycling program that accepts the return of their jars. If you return 10 jars, you get a candle for free! I think this is ideal as the jar repeats its purpose many times over.

Rose Quartz Bracelet

Pink is not my favourite colour. They had an assortment of bracelets that they randomly put in the boxes this month with the “guidance of the universe”. I was quite disappointed, but Tony enjoys pink, so he’s been wearing it lately and likes it.

Rose Quartz has the meaning of love and compassion, according to tinyrituals.co, and is supposed to improve circulation and heart health. Healthline has it representing unconditional love and says that it emits strong vibrations of love, joy, and emotional healing.

Blessed Be Mug

I’ve used this mug and it is a good, sturdy mug. I have many, many mugs and no space for them. The cupboard is full, and now they’re taking up counter space. I like different mugs, but I have too many of them. I might need to do a purge soon.

111 Necklace

I was surprised at the amount of jewelry in this box. I don’t really wear jewelry, and I think this one might remind me a little too much of my youth. I don’t know how I feel about wearing a necklace that says “angel”, regardless of how lucky it is presumed to be. 111 is supposed to represent new opportunities, which I’m a big fan of. I love opportunities, so I’m mixed feelings about this, but tend toward the negative.

Pumpkin Chai Witch Tea

I’ve been too busy drinking the pumpkin spice tea from my Loti box this month to try this one yet. My cupboard is full of tea right now and even though we drink a lot of tea, we apparently can’t drink it fast enough. We’ve probably got around 50 different types of tea up there right now. Anyone I know want to drop by for a cup? Message me!

Overall Impression

Overall I liked this box. I’d say it was more different than previous boxes, although the binder was pretty disappointing. The pen I’m fine with, even though it’s a pretty plain pen. I think it would’ve been more valuable had both of these items been themed with the Ohm box, or numerology, or something. But as it stands, they’re very plain with nothing unique about them. I’m a bit relieved that there were no books this month. As much as I love books, I can’t keep up with the amount of books that I own.

I very much look forward to next month’s box, and am on the lookout for other unique boxes. If you know of one, please let me know :).
