Peko Produce – December 4 2022

I am not sure how I feel about this. When one orders produce for the week, one would expect it to arrive fresh and last at least a few days. Some of the produce came squished, some expired promptly, some arrived already rotting, and some rotted a day or two later. Peculiar doesn’t mean rotting. Surplus doesn’t mean bad. If it’s bad or going bad, it should not be included, and someone should really teach their packers how to pack groceries properly.

This week we had:

1 squished mango

3 bags of peas

1 box of pre-washed spinach that expired on Tuesday

1 rotten orange

1 squished orange

1 apple with a split

1 bruised apple

1 small apple

3 wrinkly jalapeños, 1 with a worm hole

2 sweet potatoes

2 carrots

1 box of interesting grape tomatoes

2 mandarins

3 old lemons

2 red onions, 1 with mold

1 smelly squash

2 wrinkly bell peppers

1 butternut squash

1 squished tomato

Overall Impression

If they are always going to include rotting food, I will cancel my subscription. I was talking with my friend last night and she had a box delivered about 18 months ago and she had to throw out the entire box because there was a completely rotten tomato that spoiled everything in the box. I have seen lots of similar reviews about rotting food, so they obviously have an issue with their quality control that they have not solved in the past 18 months. Love the idea, but they’re not sticking with their mandate of surplus and peculiar. As mentioned in the introduction, peculiar doesn’t equal rotting.
