Loti Wellness Box – December 2022

What cities do I want to visit? Well, there are so many…

Oh, the prompt has nothing to do with my blog. Darn.

Anyway, it’s another Loti box! It didn’t come in its standard box because it contained an oversized item. I happen to like this oversized item. Spoiler: it’s not the booklet.

Inside the Box

“Unwind” Workbook ($8)

I glanced at it. That’s all I can say about it.

Plant Therapy Essential Oil Blend ($15)

This really does smell a bit like a Christmas tree. It’s a mixture of fir and black spruce oils.

Plant Therapy is an American company from Twin Falls, Idaho.

I do wonder why Loti didn’t try to source a Canadian supplier of essential oils. Despite being a Canadian brand themselves, they don’t seem to put much effort into supporting other Canadian brands. Possibly because we are generally an expensive country and the box’s value would be diminished.

Able Skincare Night Cream ($138)

I thought the $138 was a typo. It’s not. How did Loti get to put a cream worth $140~ in their $50 box? Loti’s got some serious connections, although it was probably incredibly overpriced to begin with.

The smell reminds me of this hand sanitizer that Tony and I had to use in Montreal at the creepiest art exhibit I’d ever seen.

It’s kind of funny that it says it’s a night cream but then suggests an application every morning and night.

Though not a “natural” beauty product, they do consider themselves a “clean” company under this definition:

“Clean, for us, means a non-toxic product that is made without a long, ever-evolving list of ingredients linked to harmful health effects from hormone disruption, to cancer, to plain-old skin irritation. We scrutinise the list of ingredients of each one of our products, and decide what ingredients we can live with, and those we can’t.”

I’ll take it. I don’t know if I trust it, but I’ll accept it.

Able Skincare is a British brand that apparently uses drone technology to deliver the cosmetic treatment. Whaaaa? They have a video about it. Watch it here. Seriously fascinating.

Evio Mask & Moisturizer ($28)

Loti has this listed at $20 in their booklet, but online I can only find it for $28.

This brand claims to be ethical, cruelty free, and toxic-free [sic].

It has a very interesting smell. There are so many ingredients in it that I cannot piece together exactly what I’m smelling.

Evio has a very interesting history that you can read here. In January 2012 the founder ended up in a safe-house shelter in Vancouver, BC and within 3 months had a partnership with YMCA and product hit the shelves within 3 months after that. What a great story. There were some hiccups along the way, but now, 11 years later, they are located in Toronto and seem to be doing quite well.

Spongellé Pedi Buffer ($18)

This must be fairly popular as it is currently sold out online. As basically anything can come in a subscription these days, so can this! Save 25% if you subscribe to a pedi-buffer. I can’t imagine needing to do that. All these subscription boxes have made me realize how much I don’t need a subscription of any sort for anything. I’m just not that predictable.

This product, however, I probably do need. Tony makes fun of my feet because of how dry and calloused they are. I broke my last buffer many months ago after over a decade of use and I never replaced it. This is when subscription boxes come in handy. Not sure the benefit outweighs the cost, but there you have it. I’m looking forward to finally using this.

On that note, I have to say that it has a very strong scent that I don’t find particularly pleasant and it is quite soft, so likely won’t be getting another 10+ years from this one. I would be surprised if I get the 30+ uses advertised as my heels are definitely harder than this. Okay, after some more reading, it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to be a great scrubber of tough feet. Darn. I take it all back!

Oversize Polyester Scarf ($59)

I know this is a polyester scarf but my word is it the softest scarf I’ve ever felt in my entire life. It’s incredibly cozy. There is a tag saying “all you need is love”, which is technically incorrect as the basic necessities trump that, and the website listed is currently a 502 error. I want to know the story behind it! I want to know all of it!

How is this scarf $59 though? I feel like some of these prices are just pulled from a hat.

Tease Crimson Cranberry ($22)

One thing I really don’t need more of right now is tea, but I really, really enjoyed my last tea from Tease.

This one smells delicious. I love cranberries, so I hope I enjoy this as much as I do the actual fruit. The mix contains apple, rosehip, cranberry, elderberry, and hibiscus.

Overall Impression

Total value received: $280 before taxes and not including the workbook. That is massive for a box that only costs $60 (including the bonus item).

I actually think this a great box from Loti. I am surprised I finally got a box that I’m completely happy with. I’m also a bit in shock at how they managed to get so many high-valued items. That may have contributed a fair bit to my happiness with the items. Ugh psychology.

I’m halfway through my Loti subscription and I’m still pretty sure I won’t be continuing. Too many items overall that I don’t like and have a hard time giving away.
