Acre 75 Gathered – Winter 2022

I almost didn’t get this box. My subscription was paused when my payment didn’t go through due to credit card fraud. Though I updated the number, my subscription fell through the cracks. I didn’t notice until I got the email for the holiday reveal that my credit card was never charged and I wouldn’t be receiving the winter box. I had a moment of panic as I really enjoyed the fall box. I emailed Virginia about it, she apologized and sent me a box right away with a nice little note.

Inside the Box

Penny Lane Minty Fresh Soap ($10.99)

This is a refreshing-smelling little bottle of soap from Penny Lane, which has the philosophy that “if we wouldn’t put something IN our bodies then we won’t put it ON our bodies either.” It’s an interesting philosophy, as there are plenty of things I don’t mind putting on my body that I wouldn’t put in it, but that’s me. I do appreciate her simple ingredient list for this soap: distilled water, saponified olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, citric acid, rosemary essential oil, and peppermint essential oil.

Buy your own direct from $10.99.

The Chocolate Factory Chocolate Bar

This chocolate gets a high rating from Tony, or at least a “Hmm! That’s pretty good!” I think it’s decent, but it’s on the sweeter side, which I’m becoming less of a fan of.

You cannot purchase these off their website, but you can visit them at either their St. Mary’s or London, Ontario locations.

Walton Wood Farm Hand Rescue ($17.99)

Walton Wood Farm. The company that seems to be Sweet Reads’ favourite. Good for them for appearing in multiple subscription boxes. This hand cream smells absolutely divine. I like the fact that it states that it’s zero calories. It really does smell good enough to eat. Hehehe.

As of writing, this cream is half price! Grab your own for $8.99 online.

Home Socks

Home is a company that has province and country-specific products on their site so you can show the world where your home is. They also want to help end homelessness in Canada, so donate 5% of their profits to causes that support that. Whether that’s net or gross profit is not specified.

These socks are 100% cotton and have no size specified. Unfortunately they are about 3 inches too long for my child-sized feet. Poor Tony is going to have to fit yet another pair of socks in his drawer. BAHAHA!

These socks are not currently available for purchase on their website.

Pat Bremner Felted Art 2023 Calendar

Pat Bremner is an artist with no website and little social media presence. The calendar contains pictures of her felted art on one side, and on the other, ideas on how to reuse the pictures (minus the calendar part). Some suggestions are recipe cards, gift tags, wreaths, note cards etc. To be honest, I’ll probably do none of those things.

The Simmer Shop ‘Tis the Season Scent

I thought this was the same company as the simmer company from Clove Pink, but it is not! I am amazed at how many small businesses are out there selling very similar things.

This has quite a nice scent, but doesn’t seem like a very eco-friendly option unless you are heating your house with a wood-burning stove and you can place a pot on top. Oh well. It still smells nice.

You can purchase your own online for $16.95.

Cafiti Candy Cane Meringues

I never thought that I could enjoy meringue, but I really like these. I love how they melt in your mouth, so you get a taste of the candy cane without having to suck on one. Not a long-lasting treat, which I’m totally for.

You can’t buy this flavour anymore, but you can choose another flavour for $4.00 online.

Overall Impression

I don’t like this box as much as the fall box, but I’m still happy to have received it even if it did arrive after Christmas. One of my absolute favourite things about this box is the fun facts about each small town that the products come from. I also love the packaging. The tissue paper is really fun and themed with the season, and the box itself is stamped with the season and a road trip “map” of the places this box’s products come from. It’s very neat. I also love supporting businesses in small towns. I still recommend the Acre 75 subscription box.
