Loti Wellness Box – January 2023

Oh boy Loti.

What happened this month?

They really dropped the ball in a variety of areas. First off, they stopped including a packing list and the workbook. I couldn’t care less about not receiving paper copies of the workbooks, but I did like the packing list. There really should have been some warning about the changes. I received my box on January 10 and didn’t get an e-mail regarding any changes until January 14. I had been keeping my eye on their social media to see if they’d announced anything, but nothing. When the e-mail arrived, there was no indication in the subject line, and I had to scroll to the get the information. I think this was a big faux pas on their part. It should have been announced before the boxes were shipped in a separate e-mail indicating upcoming changes. Anyway, both the packing list and workbook have moved online.

Another issue is that now that there is no packing list, there appears to be an issue with what items are packed. This is the first time my items haven’t matched the list, and a commenter on my YouTube channel was missing all but two items! How does that even happen? I emailed more than 3 days ago and have not yet received a response. I’m assuming we’re not the only two and there are other people who have e-mailed with questions. The holiday season is a difficult one, but that requires one to be extra prepared beforehand.

Inside the Box

Free yourself from expectations for this box! This is my sixth box and I’m now regretting have subscribed for a full year. I was young and ignorant and thinking it was a good idea. Now I’m so full of knowledge and… ah, who are we kidding? I’ve learned a lot in the past 6 months, but I’m sure I’ll continue to make bad decisions. I’m a trial by fire kind of person. Either my own fire or someone else’s. I should’ve known a wellness box was not up my alley.

Anyway, this is another app that I will not use. This card gets you one month free of premium access to their app and will not automatically renew. I’m trying to get away from my phone more. I think that’s best for my mental health. If you want the code, let me know! First come, first served.

Skin Chemists Green Caviar Day Moisturizer ($40.00)

I’m a bit confused by this brand. It has London in the title and has a UK phone number, but is made in Florida. I haven’t removed the seal, but the smell seems to be okay. I don’t know why it’s called green caviar. Is that supposed to make it sound expensive and therefore more appealing? It just sounds gross to me. Why would I want to put fish eggs on my face?

This may or may not have been my bonus item this month. It’s not on the online packing list, but neither is the roll on.

This mask is to be used every 3 days, and needs to be combined with water. This is obviously to be used multiple times, which is quite nice. More bang for buck!

Province Apothecary is a natural brand from Toronto and this mask mix contains only plant ingredients. At the time of writing it is sadly sold out.

Baby Face Peel Mask ($8)

This is a Korean mask that is alcohol, sulfate, phthalate, paraben, and silicone free! I just saw an article today linking phthalates to tumours in women, so glad to see that there’s none in this mask.

I’m sure it’s nice, but at the moment I have a massive stack of masks on my bathroom counter. For sake of space, I should probably start using them. Otherwise I’m trying to embrace this whole getting older mumbo jumbo. Mostly it just requires effort and getting wet, and that’s not appealing to me.

Loti Wellness Crystal Set

I think it’s funny that I got crystals from Spiral Rain last month, Tony found some crystals in his car from last Christmas, and now Loti sent me crystals. Is this a sign?

I like the plantable paper, though I’ve planted a few of these with zero success. I thought there might be some ideas or instruction on the paper for the contents of the bag, but no. The other thing about seed papers, is that one hopes the seeds are native to the region where they’re being planted, or at least aren’t weedy and invasive. Considering this box gets shipped all over Canada, I really wonder what seeds it contains and whether or not they’re appropriate to plant here. I’ll probably do it anyway, but my conscious weighs on me.

The plastic baggie of sage is interesting.

Measurable Difference Bath Salts ($26.76)

These are some pretty bath salts with rose petals. Each has a unique scent, but is accompanied by rose.

These were filled in China. It seems like a waste to send them to China to be filled. That must be a mistake.

Essentials Aromatherapy Energize Roll On

Now we come to the worst addition of this box. This could also be my bonus item, as it is not on the packing list. This is a roll-on made of mostly essential oils, intended to energize! I definitely need something to energize me, but this smells like bad vitamin C chewables. Boo.

Overall Impression

Not including a packing list was a bad idea, and then not releasing the “news” until 4 days after I’d received my box is just silly. I live on the other side of the country, so I’m sure people closer to Mississauga got theirs even earlier. If you’re going to make a substantial change to a product, you need to notify your customers and be clear about it. Don’t hide it in an e-mail with a vague self-help subject line.

Not including all the items that are supposed to be in the box is also not great. I figure the packing list also used to help the people packing the boxes. I didn’t get the ‘Breathe’ Essential Oil Shower & Spa Spray, and someone who found me on YouTube was missing even more items!

The lack of communication this month has been astounding. Not a peep on their social media or website despite posting daily on Instagram and Facebook. I don’t know if I just caught Loti at a time when they’re going downhill, or if it’s just a random bad month, but communication is extremely important.
