Loti Wellness Box – March 2023

Only three more boxes until I have fulfilled my subscription contract with Loti. Cancelling doesn’t appear to be a straightforward process. There is nowhere in my account with an option to cancel (despite the FAQ saying to go there to cancel), so I suppose I’ll have to e-mail them when the time comes. June 10 should be my last payment and then I can move onto something more fitting to my personality. Despite the blogging and YouTube being entirely unproductive and time-draining, I kind of like it.

Inside the Box

Yerba mate was introduced to me by an Ecuadorian friend in university. It was not immediately appealing, but it does have a lot of caffeine. Apparently it’s good for you. This container says it’s high in antioxidants. I’m not really looking forward to trying it, but it might be good.

“Tease is the first tea company in Canada to become a certified benefit corporation meeting the highest standards in verified social and environmental impact.” Interesting!

When they say body oil spray, they really mean body oil spray. I have never seen a spray bottle for an oil outside of cooking.

Balanse NYC was started in 2019 in NYC and is manufactured in South Africa. “Our products are naturally nourishing and easy on your skin. Our goal is to make beauty and skin care affordable.” I’m not sure $34CAD for a spray oil is affordable, but okay. The oil is actually nicer than I thought it would be. The smell is okay. It’s supposed to be lavender, but that’s not what I get from it. On further inspection it also contains geranium oil, so that might be the culprit.

So my hands are coated in the oil and it feels not too bad and doesn’t seem to transfer much if at all, which is very nice for an oil! I’m not entirely sure what its purpose is, but the bottle says that it improves the appearance of: scars, stretchmarks, skin blemishes, wrinkles, dry & flaky skin, problem/irritated skin.

Steami Eye Mask

This was my bonus item this month. I already have one from my November Loti box that I haven’t used yet. I guess they’re just getting rid of old stock.

Foster Body Whip

This product is not available on Foster’s website.

This is made in Victoria, BC, so that’s exciting. Nice to see Loti including a local company. Foster focuses on local suppliers and prefers to use whole plant ingredients. Interestingly enough they prioritize organic and edible ingredients.

I’m not a huge fan of this scent. I would never choose to purchase it, but it’s not the worst thing. It’s quite greasy going on my skin, so would probably be good for massages.

Loti has this listed at $32, which is just crazy. Not worth it. Nope.

Unplugged – $12

Here’s a summary straight from their website:

REFLECT on your relationship with your phone through interactive journal prompts.

BRAINSTORM around what you would rather do instead of being on social media.

PRESS RESET on your relationship with screens through a 7-day digital detox challenge that covers app, internet, email, and cell phone settings, as well as your daily habits around your phone use.

I don’t think this is really possible or relevant to me. No surprise there. Ugh.

HerHelp Gift Voucher

Here is my gift to you. I will never use this.

I find it ironic that in the same box that contains a workbook to get us to “unplug” and use our phones less wants us to put our lives on another app. Hmmm….

This is a cute little jewelry organizer for travel. I’m not a fan of the colour. It’s supposed to be pink but is more like a pinky-beige sort of thing, so a little more neutral. You can also purchase it in white and black on the outside.

The website looks pretty fishy to me, so purchase if you dare. The quality seems pretty good though.

Overall Impression

The travel jewelry box is a decent item in this box for those who wear a lot of jewelry. I have a person I think would enjoy it and get a lot of use out of it, so it’ll be a nice gift.

I find the valuations of these products interesting. People can charge whatever they want for a product as long as someone will pay for it. I know certain brands have notoriety either for quality, exclusivity, or vibe, but I find it weird seeing unknown (to me) brands charging huge amounts of money for products of questionable quality. This is especially so when you know you can get a similar (or better!) product cheaper elsewhere. We’ve all got to make money in this time of steep inflation, but that means we should be saving money, too, no?

Maybe when I’ve tried enough similar items I will compile them into a list to compare quality and price. Would that be useful to you? Let me know in the comments :).
