Acre 75 Gathered – Summer 2023

Acre 75 is always a fun box because we get to learn about all these small towns scattered across the country. This is not a box where you get a screaming deal for the price you spend. The appeal is the curated arrangement of products from small Canadian businesses.

Inside the Box

A list of the businesses this month and where they’re from.

Colibri Wet Bag – $24.49

I’ve never had a wet bag before, so this will come in handy. This is their regular size, which is 12″ x 15″, but they come in larger and smaller sizes.

Colibri is from St. Adolphe, Manitoba, and focuses on manufacturing reusable products.

I could smell it faintly before taking off the plastic safety seal, but as soon as I took off the seal I got a whoosh of pineapple. This is not the best made salt scrub I’ve seen. Upon opening, it looks like all the oil has sunk to the bottom and there are chunks that have formed on the top. If you don’t like pineapple, I would stay far away as it’s quite strong.

Scrub Inspired is from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and focuses on cruelty-free, vegan, and eco-friendly products.

Enercheez Crunch Cheddar Bites – $7.99

I am hit or miss with cheese, but these are so addictive I made Tony take them to work so they’re not in the house. It’s literally just dried cheese. I didn’t know dried cheese snacks were a thing until now. I brought it up to my brother recently and he already knew about them, but from a different brand at Costco.

Enercheez is from Nelson, British Columbia, and focuses on natural cheese snacks. That’s as far as I can tell as the website is not loading (hence lack of links).

These crackers are a tasty, limited ingredient seed cracker that can help you feel not guilty about snacking. Eve started making these crackers after changing her diet to help with her eczema and needing a healthy snack to indulge on. I’d say she succeeded.

The total ingredients are:

  • golden flaxseeds
  • sunflower seeds
  • chia seeds
  • non-GMO soy seasoning
  • nutritional yeast
  • garlic powder
  • psyllium husk

Not too shabby.

Eve’s Crackers are based in Langley City, British Columbia.

This is a small (14g), but very nice lip balm. I don’t think I’ve ever had a lime lip balm before, so it’s a refreshing and tasty delight. I’ve lost and found it many times since receiving it this past week.

Pearl & Moss Botanicals is based in Wawa, Ontario, and is “dedicated to creating high-quality artisanal soaps and herbal based bath & body and skincare products.”

Sap Sucker Orange & Lime – $2.33 each

This is a neat idea, using maple sap to have naturally sweet sparkling water.

Sapsucker is is from Flesherton, Ontario, and wants to offer an alternative to traditional beverages. It’s got lots of the important buzzwords. Read the story here.

Overall Impression

With a total retail value of only $78.88, I spent $19.07 before tax this month on the curating and shipping of the box. As much as I appreciate the effort that goes into this box, I don’t know if it’s going to make sense long term. If you’re in the area and are able to pick up, then you can save $15, but even then, the only benefit you’re getting is the curation of the products.

I’m seeing that this is often a problem with the Canadian boxes. You look at FabFitFun where you can spend $60USD and receive more than 3x the value in products. It’s hard to support our own country’s enterprises when our big brother to the south offers so much more value.
