Friday Sock Co – July 2023 (Women’s)

It’s summer, and seeing cows on socks reminds me that I need to stock up on hay. Every year it gets harder to find hay. The people who hay around here are generally old men and the younger generation either don’t want to or can’t afford to do it (or they charge ridiculous amounts… $300 for delivery?). Add the loss of farmland to development, blueberries, and commercial truck parking taking over the hay farms that did exist, and it’s not a good time. It’s especially disheartening because if you have livestock, you need the hay, and a lot of livestock farmers are not able to afford the current prices. Hay and grain have more than doubled in the past 10 years, and land… well… you need millions of dollars for that, and you won’t get that back haying. I used to have miniature cattle, but couldn’t afford to keep them. *End Tangent Rant*
