The Balanced Company – Balanced Mini Snacker July 2023

I’ve had quite the time with The Balanced Company. I ordered a lot from them back on June 17, including the Father’s Day Box, which I thought for sure would ship before the subscription boxes. It did not. Everything ended up being scheduled to ship on July 4 with a promised tracking number. I did not receive a tracking number, but I got a notification that it had been delivered on July 12. It was not delivered. I inquired again, and they said UPS lost the box (it’s a big box, so if they did, that’s brutal), and as an apology, they included this Mini Snacker box. Now that the chaos of the first delivery is over, I’m hoping the remaining deliveries go better.

Inside the Box

Tony loves granola, so this is a good thing to have. The sugars used to sweeten this are maple syrup and brown sugar. I don’t really like lemon, so this will probably be a Tony exclusive. It also looks like it expires on September 11, so he’ll need to eat it quickly.

Bob’s Red Mill is an American company. Bob and his wife Charlee are adorable and have always had this mission: to provide wholesome food to their customers, build close relationships with farmers and suppliers, and treat their employees with generosity and respect. Mad respect from me.

My old roommate, Kirsten, used to use monk fruit to sweeten things, but I’ve never tried it. This expires in September, so I will likely give this to her as I have 2 more from other boxes. The instructions are to add 4-6 drops to a single-serving of food or beverage and adjust to taste. I wonder if it can be used in baking.

Sweet Monk was launched in April of 2017 in Guelph.

I love grapefruit. I’m not a huge fan of coconut water or sparkling water, but I’m sure this will taste a lot better than calorie-free, lightly flavoured sparkling water. I’m very much looking forward to trying this.

Thirsty Buddha is a Canadian company, which I believe is based in Montreal because of the area code. They have a passion for healthy living and good food, and refuse to compromise taste for clean labels. Sounds good to me.

I do really enjoy pretzels. I love the saltiness. The current reviews online are not very good for these pretzels. Apparently they changed the recipe and people are upset. They are crunchier than regular pretzels and I’m satisfied with them. There ended up being about 1/2 a tsp of salt at the bottom of the bag.

Glutino is owned by Conagra Brands and focuses on gluten-free fare.

Barney Butter uses blanched almonds to make their products, so they’re apparently extra smooth and delicious. I’ve never seen little “snack packs” before. These expire in October, so I’m going to have to use them fairly soon.

Barney Butter is an American company from Fresno, California.

I am so so curious about these cookies. If I weren’t so nauseous right now, I would definitely try one immediately. I’ve been salivating over them for over a week now. There’s only 9 tiny cookies per bag though, so they’re not cheap.

Seedwise is a Canadian company that “started SeedWise because [they’re] in love with powerful snacks that pack a seedy punch. No fillers. No grains. Just the unbelievably craveably power of seeds.”

Same thoughts as the birthday cake, but chocolately instead. Both sets of cookies expire in October.

These are teeny little bars, which I’m assuming would be great for kids. They are made with dates, oat flour, and puffed quinoa. There is spinach and sweet potato hidden inside as well. They expire in September.

Nola Baking is a Canadian company that focuses on healthier choices for granola, pancakes, and bars.

Overall Impression

I think this is a great little box. You seem to get a decent deal on the food if you enjoy what’s given. The close expiry dates aren’t very comforting though.
