Waggle Mail – Second box: September 2023

This is our second box from Waggle Mail. It is by far the most expensive box that I have purchased, but they also have the coolest dashboard. Starting mid-November, Waggle Mail will be offering a vet-curated shop that will be accessible through the dashboard. There will be free shipping on orders over $49, or if they are included in the next box. I am very curious to see this offering.

I am a bit disappointed that they didn’t do anything for Maila’s birthday, which was in August. So far none of the dog subscription companies have done anything for the subscribed dog for their birthday. There is a rumour, however, that DuraPaw is planning something special for Canek’s birthday, which is November 18.

Inside the Box

Joint Health Information Booklet

These booklets are very nicely produced, however the information could be put on a single sheet.

This ball is intended to stimulate all 5 senses. The squeaker is quite loud, and the scent is strong once out of the wrapping. It is made in China, of TPR rubber. It suggests hiding treats in the hole, but that hole is way too small to put any sort of treat in. There is also a bell inside. The dogs aren’t finding it as intriguing as I thought they would. So far, the best balls I’ve purchased for the dogs were mini basketballs from the Co-op for $2.

It is recommended that one of these dental sticks be given to the dog 2-4 times per week. Even at only 2 per week for one dog, it wouldn’t last the 3 months between boxes. I do love dental treats, but the dogs chew through them so quickly I doubt they do much for the teeth at all.

These are chicken flavour, and appear to be the old recipe. You can really smell the molasses as soon as the bag is open. The treats are harder than I was expecting, despite the “semi-moist” label. All three dogs ate them cheerfully of course.

I was hoping the smell of this would be a little nicer.

It contains volcanic minerals, camellia seed oil, jojoba seed oil, honey extract, and meadowfoam seed oil. It is made in Taiwan, but the company is based in Texas. It says it’s also good for dry noses and elbows. Canek has quite a problem with dry elbows, so hopefully this will help.

Tuffy Rabbit Toy

It’s no secret that Maila loves rabbits. I’ve had a few extra-tough plush toys, possibly from this brand, that eventually get chewed through or abandoned because the dogs prefer the squish of softer toys.

After getting the Joint Power Meg in the last box, I was surprise to see the less involved edition in this box. This bottle also proved to be very messy. The seal didn’t want to come off and I think that has affected how the top sits, so the sides end up covered in liquid.

Maila doesn’t mind the taste, thankfully. It’s more work than the pills I normally give her, but there’s no chance she can leave it behind.

Overall Impression

I still don’t get the feeling the box is worth the amount I’m paying for it. With only 6 items, that makes the average price for each product around $26 each. Except maybe the joint supplement, I would never pay that much for any of those products. As I like to try most boxes at least 3 times, and I’m also really curious about the new shop, I will allow one more purchase with this company and then likely cancel.
