The Balanced Company – Men’s Lifestyle Box Winter 2024

As a woman, I think men’s boxes would be difficult to curate. Women’s boxes can always be filled with stereotypical objects, but what do men really want? The Balanced Company comes close, but not sure it quite hits the mark. Maybe women are just generally much more consumeristic.

Inside the Box

There is only one ingredient in this: hydrolyzed bovine collagen peptides. It is flavourless, so it’s easy to mix into smoothies, coffee, water, food, etc. It’s kind of like gelatin that way, but I wonder if it smells as bad as gelatin does when mixed with water. I used gelatin recently to stabilize some whipping cream and it had a horrible smell that the dogs loved and made me want to vomit, but it had absolutely no taste. So bizarre.

Vital Proteins is based in Chicago, USA.

MyTagAlongs Fitness Arm Band

This arm band is grey camo coloured and just fits Tony’s phone, sort of. There are slots at the bottom to fit a charging cable and headphone (?) cable. It must be pretty old because most phones don’t have a headphone jack anymore. The plastic does not inhibit use of the phone, so you can use it with the case on. There is also a large storage pouch in the back for keys etc.

MTA was started in 2006 and is based in Montreal.

Crave Stevia Chocolate Bar

I quite enjoyed this chocolate. It definitely has a different flavour than chocolate with regular sugar, but it is still delicious. Possibly a good choice for diabetics as it does not raise the blood sugar level. This chocolate is not currently listed on their website.

Crave Stevia is a Canadian company from Nanaimo, BC that was founded in 2002.

Rain water is an interesting scent to imagine because actual rain water doesn’t smell that great. This, however, is a pleasant scent. We received it in a previous box, and I enjoyed using it. The oat blossom scent is much nicer, but this one isn’t bad.

Mrs. Meyer’s is now owned by SC Johnson, but was originally inspired by Mrs. Thelma A Meyer, and started by one of her daughters.

I am not a fan of roll-ons. In fact, I am not a fan of topical oils at all. I have so many for health, for perfume, for beauty, and I don’t like any of them! Oil just sits on my skin and I feel constantly greasy. Blech!

Sadly this has a best before date of February 2024.

Tea tree oil is know for cleansing (also for removing wax after hair removal). As an antibacterial and antifungal, it can be used to treat acne, athlete’s foot etc.

Borage Therapy is a specific line from Shikai that focuses on extremely dry skin. The scent is not at all pleasant, but it does absorb fairly quickly and isn’t too greasy. The ingredients are: Decolorized Aloe Vera Gel (Aloe Barbadensis), Glyceryl Stearate (Vegetable Emulsifier), Safflower Seed Oil (Carthamus Tinctorius), Glycerin, Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis), Borage Seed Oil (Borago Officinalis), Cetyl Alcohol (Vegetable Wax), Vitamin E Acetate (Tocopherol), Dimethicone, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii Fruit), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), L-Ergothioneine (Amino Acid), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyl Glycerin.

Shikai is from Santa Rosa, California and manufactures their products in the USA.

This is one of Tony’s favourite soaps. The scent is amazing, and he loves the exfoliating properties.

Auromere is non-profit owned and the proceeds go toward the upkeep and activities of the ashram in California as well as other Integral Yoga efforts in the US and India.

I just recently finished my Tanit shampoo bar, which I originally liked, but wouldn’t purchase a third time. I am very much looking forward to trying Auromère’s shampoo bar although I really don’t like the scent. Maybe it will be better after using, when it’s not so potent.

Overall Impression

This box wasn’t too shabby. The chocolate and soaps are all great. I’m a bit scared, but interested in trying the collagen. Tony is looking forward to testing the phone case on his next run, and the hand cream is always useful. The least appreciated item in this box is the tea tree oil.
