Lil Helper Hera Overnight Breast Pads Review

Lil HelperHera Overnight Breast Pads (2 Pairs)

These were the first nursing pads that I purchased. They were on sale, so I thought it might be a good idea to get some in case I needed them. How ignorant I was about how necessary nursing pads are!

Overall Impression

I don’t like Lil Helper. I was sucked in by their marketing back when I knew next to nothing about cloth diapering and reusable feminine products. It was a lot of “Buy my products because I’m nice and I used to be a rocket scientist, so obviously I designed a superior product.” I was under the impression that there were few options out there and that their products were unique. They’re not, and they’re certainly not the best. There are many things I dislike about the company, but the first bad taste in my mouth was advertising a Black Friday sale, but making the code hard to find on the website, and having a sale section that I confused for the Black Friday sale. Obviously my fault, but it’s a dirty business practice. When I e-mailed about it, they offered 25% off (less than the sale) of a future purchase, despite having bought over $400 worth of cloth diapering supplies because of the apparent sale. I think that it is bad practice to not automatically apply the code during a sale. It is purposely taking advantage of people’s ignorance by hoping that they won’t see/find the code and end up paying more, despite having been steered to the company because of the sale.

Anyway, it was in that order that I purchased the breast pads.

The Goods:

  • Canadian company
  • Larger circumference than other breast pads
  • Contoured
  • Waterproof outer layer
  • Easy laundering

The Not-So-Goods:

  • Made in China
  • Synthetic materials
  • Retains milk stench
  • Ugly as sin
  • Expensive
  • Slow shipping

I do still use these for overnights, but they always smell bad, like old milk. I prefer them for overnight just because the larger circumference and the contoured shape means that they shift less throughout the night. It does not mean that they don’t shift at all, it’s just less than the other pads that I own. I tend not to wear them at any other time.

I do want to address the claim that “our breast pads are stay-dry, hypoallergenic, antimicrobial…”. I haven’t really found that to be the case, and like every other pad, my nipples have stuck to them at some point. At least they don’t claim to be discrete. Ha!

I recommend these for people who need a larger circumference, enjoy a contoured design, don’t need a ton of absorbency, and aren’t bothered by the rotten milk smell.
