Cozey Couch Neptune Sofa Bed Review

Cozey Couch Neptune Sofa Bed with ottoman and sleeper kit

We used to have a queen-sized bed in the spare room, which is where our TV is. It was great for when we needed someone to farm sit, so that they had a comfortable place to stay, but it took up a lot of room and it was awkward if we wanted to watch a show with anyone. I was watching Nick Lewis one day, a local interior design influencer, and he questioned having a spare bedroom if it wasn’t being used frequently. What could the space be used for instead? I decided to store our bed and try a sofa couch instead. Great decision. Thanks Nick Lewis!

I had been seeing Cozey’s ads for a while and when I decided to buy a couch for the spare room, the fact that you could remove the cushions to wash them was a huge plus for me. We have a toddler, 3 cats, and 3 long-haired dogs in the house, so being able to remove the covers was an important factor. *Spoiler alert* I didn’t know that the removable covers didn’t apply to all the couches, so the one I happened to order doesn’t have that option. ARGH!

We also needed something modular as our hallway and doorways are abnormally narrow and I have had difficulty fitting furniture down and through them before. The storage component was also a massive bonus for me as I like things and my house is old with almost no storage.

Overall Impression

I really like it. It off-gassed for about a month, which my friend continues to make fun of me for, but it hasn’t smelled since then, and it didn’t give me a headache like my Kingsdown mattress did (I had to stop using that mattress because it was making me so sick).

I found it relatively easy to put together. You don’t need any tools, and things more or less just slide or screw in, though some things didn’t come together quite right. Some of the pieces didn’t line up quite right or screw in tight, but it fits together well enough that I’m not afraid it’s going to collapse. High standards, I know. I did have a little bit of an advantage when putting it together because I had already read people complaining that a set of legs was hidden inside one of the arms.

It is quite firm, which I actually like, so find it quite comfortable. The cats love it and two of them spend a significant amount of the day on it. I also like the colour and the fabric. It’s not soft or anything, but I feel like it should be somewhat durable with the amount of careless creatures that use it. We’ll see how long it lasts!

When using as a bed, the reviews have been “It’s ok”. It’s kind of awkward that the bed is sideways and the arm doesn’t extend all the way down for what would be the headboard. The pillows that come with it are soft, but quite small. The mattress topper is fine. I don’t like the grey colour of the comforter, but it is what it is. I’m not quite sure what size, if any, of regular sheets will fit this.

I am a bit annoyed that the sleep kit is now $100 cheaper than when I purchased it, but that’s great news for everyone else.

Bed option

The Goods:

  • Modular
  • Not complicated to put together
  • Fast shipping
  • Firm
  • Has storage
  • Can turn into a bed with a sleep kit

The Not-So-Goods:

  • Off-gassing
  • Maybe too firm for some people
  • Sleep kit takes up all the storage
  • Changing it into a bed is time-consuming
  • Ottoman moves quite a bit, even when attached

Good for People Who:

  • Want a modular couch
  • Want to support Canadian
  • Don’t need a cheap couch
  • Want storage
  • Want a sofa-bed option
  • Don’t mind purchasing something without trying it

Overall I would recommend the Cozey Neptune couch. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but I do not regret my purchase.
