Cushy Couch Play Couch Review

Cushy Couch Play Couch (Sage)

It seems everyone with young children has a play couch these days. One of my friends was egging me on for months to get one. I only knew about the ones from Amazon, Costco, and the Kiddie couch (a local company, but made in China), so wasn’t really interested. Then I got an ad from Go Coconut on Instagram and I started to look at Canadian-made brands. I eventually happened upon the Cushy Couch.

After looking at the Go Coconut couches, I decided to go down the rabbit hole of Canadian companies selling play couches. Of course social media trackers helped me out by inundating me with ads from all sorts of them, and then I found a spreadsheet (woo!) on Reddit that someone had graciously made. Who knew there were so many Canadians competing for the same selling space? I decided on the Cushy Couch because it is sourced from and made in Canada. It also happens to be cheaper than Go Coconut, which was my second choice.

My house is very dark. I like dark colours, but I’ve been moving away from them because there isn’t enough light in my house. So for the couch I chose the colour “sage” because I thought it would reflect light well without being beige, grey, or pink.

The blue you see in the picture is the napper that I added on after purchasing the couch. They gave me a discount code of $40 to add it to my order. It dropped it from $109 to $69 + $8 in tax for a total of $77. The napper is two wedges that get added to the end of the couch to extend it into a twin size bed. They can also be used as extra components for building forts. I decided to go with a different colour just for fun.

I thought the four main cushions would be separate, but they are actually sewn together. I actually like this better, so that they stay together better when using it as an actual couch, which I frequently do. The covers are removable, washable, and replaceable if you want to try a different colour or they get worn out.

The seams and zippers

The material is microsuede. I was worried it would irritate me like other microfibres, but it doesn’t bother me at all. It’s also nice and soft.

The couch is a lot shorter than I thought it would be. My friend has a Kiddie couch, and although I’ve never sat on it, I remember it being taller. However, this is about the same height as a friend’s from Amazon, but much, much, sturdier. As a short person, I like that I can actually rest my feet on the ground. It’s also good for young kids.

Overall Impression

I am happy with my choice. I like the sage colour in most lighting. Sometimes it looks a little grey, but it’s not a big deal. The niagara colour is also very pretty. The colour selection from Cushy Couch is overall more classy than say, Go Coconut, which has more fun and vibrant colours.

I have spent quite a bit of time on this couch over the past 4 months and it has held up just fine. There is no sagging or any noticeable wear on the fabric. My son also quite enjoys it, though he hasn’t yet gotten to the building stage with the couch.

The Goods:

  • CertiPUR-US Certified foam
  • Fully made in Canada
  • Materials sourced from Canada
  • Free shipping
  • Mid-range price
  • Napper add-on to create a twin-sized bed

The Not-So-Goods:

  • More expensive than Chinese-made couches
  • No bright colours

Good for People Who:

  • Want a Canadian-made play couch
  • Want a Canadian-sourced play couch
  • Like more classic colours
  • Have a baby, toddler, or young children

Overall I would recommend the Cushy Couch.
