Jan & Jul Cotton Bucket Hats Review

Jan & Jul Cotton Bucket Hats (0-6m)

I ordered four of these hats, all in the same size, in one of my post-partum panic shopping moments. I guess I figured I needed enough hats that I would always be able to find one. WHY WOULD I ORDER FOUR 0-6M HATS FOR MY 4-MONTH OLD AND NONE LARGER? At least they were on sale. Also, I was still using them at a year, so I definitely got my money’s worth.

Jan & Jul is one of those rare Canadian brands that actually has a physical store that you can visit. In Jan & Jul’s case there are two: one in Richmond, and a showroom in Surrey.

I purchased 3 of these hats for $13.50 each, and the leopard hat was $18.89 from the sale section. They currently retail at $26.99 each.

These hats were great, and I managed to use them for way longer than I should have. The adjusting strap was really useful, especially in the beginning when my baby’s head was relatively small. By the end of the hats’ use (between 12 and 18 months) I mostly just balanced them on the top of his head, but they still worked fine.

Overall Impression

I like these hats. I am not gentle with things, and these held up really well. They travelled overseas with us twice, got stuffed into bags, left the vehicles, dropped, got waterlogged etc. and they’re still in great condition. I like the close connection with manufacturing, even though it is abroad, and the emphasis on creating good jobs for their employees in China.

My only real complaint is because the brim stays in such good condition, if the child puts his or her head back, the front of it can pop up, reducing the shade.

See how well the hats fit well past the 6-month mark.

The Goods:

  • Ethically made
  • Adjustable strap
  • Safety strap
  • Cute designs
  • 50+ UPF
  • Good quality

The Not-So-Goods:

  • Pricey (although I’m starting to wonder what isn’t these days)

Good for People Who:

  • Like the designs
  • Can afford them
  • Want good quality
  • Want to support ethical manufacturing overseas

I think these hats are great, and I would recommend them to others.
