These diapers are unique on the cloth diaper market and are much thinner than most reusable diapers currently available. Having a less bulky bottom is a nice feature when trying to fit your baby into their clothes. With most cloth diapers you often need to size up the clothing in order to fit it over the gigantic tush. The thinness is a major bonus of these diapers.

I have used these diapers without incident on a few occasions. I’ve only had them for about a week, but today was the first time there was a leak. Unfortunately it wasn’t a small leak, and the diaper hadn’t really been on that long. My baby is a pretty heavy wetter, but I do expect a diaper to keep the liquids inside. The diaper was quite wet on one side and throughout the waistband. You can see the wetness line in the picture below.

The Wetness Line

Another aspect I dislike about these diapers is that the velcro catches on everything, including itself. I do think this was an oversight in the design as it routinely attaches itself to its stitching, which I cannot believe will be good in the long run. You can see it starting to fray after a few uses.

Fraying Thread

Another disadvantage is this is the only cloth diaper I’ve come across that requires washing in cold water. Not only is it not very hygienic, but if you have other diaper brands, it makes it extra work to wash both sets of diapers. Also, the inserts for these diapers require hot water for washing, which makes it even more inconvenient.

Diaper Washing Instructions

When I ordered these diapers, I had no idea that they didn’t come with inserts. At a price of $24.95 each, one would think they would come with inserts, but they do not, and only their inserts work with these diapers. A pack of 2 costs $9.95, and one super absorbent insert costs $5.95. I just happened to luck out because I bought 3 “extras”, thinking that these would supplement the ones that came with the diapers.

Another thing I don’t like is the fit of the inserts in the diapers. Because of the elastics in the legs, it doesn’t sit nicely in the “slot”.

I put the insert in upside down in the photo above for clarity of fit.

The velcro on the diapers is only in the middle, creating flaps when on baby. This hasn’t happened to me yet, but I can imagine the flaps catching on something, or the baby pulling them and the diaper coming undone.

Overall Impression

I’m still on the fence about these diapers. I like the velcro for ease of fitting, but it also catches on things and will likely wear out faster than snaps. I like the sleek design which fits nicely on the baby, but that forces you to buy multiple sizes of diapers throughout the baby’s diapering time. That’s 3 sets of diapers ( S, M, & L) and at least 1 insert for each diaper, also in S, M, & L. So at minimum it’s around $30 per diaper with an insert, and you need at least 30 of each size, you’re looking at around 90 diapers at $30/diaper. $2700 is still cheaper than what others pay for disposables, but this isn’t the best diaper on the market, especially if your child is a heavy wetter, and you’re stuck with their system. No boosters or better inserts from other companies.

The Goods:

  • Canadian company
  • Unique design
  • Sleek/thin
  • Velcro for ease of fit
  • Nice looking

The Not-So-Goods:

  • Expensive
  • Not interchangeable with other diapering systems
  • Diapers do not come with inserts
  • Velcro for longevity
  • Limited designs
  • Not fully leak proof
  • Multiple sizes required
  • 28lbs is the max weight

  1. So informative! I was browsing on their website and saw their diapers. What’s your favourite/ recommendation for reusable diapers?

    1. Hi Char!

Oof that’s a tough one to answer. I’m still trying new things and I keep changing my preferences as my baby gets older and his shape changes. A lot of it depends on what your budget is and what your priorities are. Do you want to be stuffing pockets? Do you want to be needing covers? Do you want something fast and easy, but may require a longer drying time? Do you want something that can snap in? Do you want a slimmer profile? Do you want natural fibres? Do you want one size? Because my needs/wants keep changing, I currently have on rotation:

      1. Esembly (cotton fitteds with cover)
      2. Mother-Ease (sandy’s, duos, uno, and OS fitted)
      3. Alva Baby (OS pockets)
      4. Generic Amazon (OS pockets)
      5. Cedar Valley (AWJ OS pockets)
      6. Menagerie Farms (AWJ OS pockets)
      7. Lighthouse Kids (AWJ OS pocket)
      8. Lilly & Frank (OS fitted & contoured flats)
      9. Bumby (wool covers and boosters)

      I have stashed away:

      1. Smiling Rama (will probably never use again)
      2. Lil Helper
      3. Zoocchini (will probably never use again, though it was super cute when he was a newborn)
      4. La Petite Ourse (only bought newborn size and didn’t bother to buy more)
      5. Souris Mini

I found the fleece to be the worst for maintenance (Smiling Rama, Lil Helper, and Zoocchini). The fleece wears out so quickly and everything sticks to it, including hair and the fluff balls from other diapers. I also found these the hardest to keep the smell of urine out of. The generic Amazon pockets also shed and attract fluff and hair, but not to the same extent.

I ended up buying more from Mother-Ease because I wanted more that I could snap in (duos), which also have the benefit of being able to reuse the cover if the insert isn’t saturated. I also like that they are manufactured in Canada. Cedar Valley and Menagerie Farms, in my opinion, have the best designs. Lilly & Frank have the most luxurious diapers, but they have a lot of bulk, need covers, and are expensive. AlvaBaby at this age (5 months) have the slimmest profile and we usually use for going out at the moment, they’re also inexpensive.

If you can, it might be worth it to get one or two from a variety of brands/types and see what you like best before investing in an entire stash. I have so much to say about all these diapers, but haven’t had a chance to write full posts about them yet. All the best to you and good luck!
